Location:
Stromboli volcano, Sicily
Stromboli is a volcanic island located in the Tyrrhenian Sea, off the north coast of Sicily, Italy. It's an active volcano, which has been erupting almost continuously for centuries.
Stromboli is one of the most active volcanoes in the world yet due to its' continuous activity the effects are moderate and safe. It been in a state of almost continuous activity for over 2,000 years.
Unlike many other volcanoes, Stromboli exhibits persistent low-level activity rather than occasional violent eruptions. This consistent activity has earned it the nickname "Lighthouse of the Mediterranean."
The most special time to see its' eruptions is at night when a spectacular display of fireworks-like eruptions lite up the dark sky.
